Today is the big day; the artwork is being hung at Minas in Hampden (all 30 paintings)!  In the midst of all of the work we (Pat Moran + Associates) have been doing for casting the HBO series VEEP, I managed to put the finishing touches on what needs to be done for my art-show and the opening.  I am very excited about the opening on Saturday and I look forward to seeing everyone there!  Below I am including a description/background of this all new body of work entitled "Fragments from Utilis Planta".

Fragments from Utilis Planta


Over a thousand years ago a book entitled Utilis Planta was written and illustrated by an unknown author.  The book was apparently discovered, by a Mellyle Asquith, in the private collection of a man who called himself Anton Vision, but there is no written record of his existence (only word of mouth).  While waiting in Anton’s library, to be seen, Mellyle looked through this book and remembered a great deal, but only a small percentage of the entirety of the text.  This book disappeared shortly after and only the one copy that Mellyle made from his memory exists.  That copy has been missing, along with Mellyle for quite some time as well.  Before he went missing, he shared this book with some friends.  This series shows some of the illustrations of the fantastic and fabled plants from that copied text and an accompanying description of each plant and its use.  These are only memories of memories of that copied text, which had been passed down verbally, so this is the first time they have been written and illustrated in hundreds of years, and only the third time they have been physically documented.  All of the plants described in this book have never been seen before and many question if they ever even existed.  For now, they shall remain categorized under Cryptobotany.

The press releases are done and now being sent out for the September 24th show at Minas in Hampden (minasgalleryandboutique.com) The show is coming together quite well and as is stands right now, I will have 26 pieces total, all of which will be professionally framed and matted.

This series is titled "Fragments from Utilis Planata" and are all plants that are from the (yet untitled) young-adult novels I am writing.  You can check out a few images of the pieces in the series, under the "Illustrations" tab, here on this website.  They are actually ink illustrations with watercolor detail, so could technically be classified as paintings as well.

It has been great working in the office and now that the HBO pilot, VEEP has wrapped, things are a little less frantic, but we still are quite busy.  I must say that we had such a great time working on the project and everyone involved was so great to work with.

Just launched the new website!  After many years of using the website SPGville, I have decided to move on and use this new site with the title of the production company, I film under.  I am excited about what all of this will mean for Arsenic Media and I already have some great ideas stirring around in my head.  Who knows where things will take me, but for now, I am happy to have the site up and have a Blog that I will be keeping active.  Come back and see what I have going on, become a fan and spread the word!
