Through the mediums of painting, writing and film-making; artist S. Philip G. has developed a highly imaginable world where creatures that live in our minds, whether whimsical or macabre, now can live among us; and the very flora of the planet can reclaim the territory from which man has taken.
This world that S. Philip G. takes the observer into is one that, despite its somber tones, has the power to captivate and intrigue while allowing plenty of room for the observer to no longer be the observer and instead place their own view into the story. To give it their own beginning, middle or end.
Concentrating his studies in art throughout grade and high school levels, S. Philip G. was awarded an art scholarship from the state of Maryland. Seeing the young artist's talent, professor and artist Olin Yoder under whom he studied, pushed S. Philip G. to compete for the scholarship. Having achieved an associates degree in fine art, S. Philip G. decided to continue his art career in a less formal fashion– shaping his work through his own vision– away from the arts community.
During the next decade after college, S. Philip G. lived in cities such as Boston and San Francisco, but it wasn't until moving back to his home town of Baltimore, Maryland did he complete his first painting series and land his first public show. Although the Among Us series began in 2001, S. Philip G. has been creating various artworks since 1988. In early 2006, S. Philip G. began filming an independent production, boldly probing the dark and often harrowing extremes of the adult psyche. Production is ongoing and is slated for release in 2011.
Residing in Baltimore, the artist is actively working on his second illustrated novel. The first children’s book, “You Are Now Leaving Torporville” was published by Vantage Press in 2004, and continues to receive praise and recognition from the arts community. In addition to writing, S. Philip G. continues to paint and draw and is currently producing a third series of paintings.
