Artist of the month - Chris Haas

Sculptor and painter Chris Haas has created a unique mark on the art world with his mounted and embellished skulls. "The Duke" (pictured above) is one of my favorite examples of his work in which the skull of an animal goes through a sculptural metamorphosis and is transformed into an new and darkly beautiful creature. The filigree and design on the mount flows over the skull like a delicate preserved membrane, while fresh ears and eyes (and some times adornments) give form and life where there was once none. Residing in Colorado, Chris has most recently contributed art to the annual Conjoined 7 (curated by Chet Zar) show at the CoproGallery in Santa Monica California.
